Trees form a very large part of the British country scene, whether growing natually or forming part of the landscaping of a country house, and a knowledge of the carious species, their leaves, flowers and fruit, adds greatly to the enjoyment and understanding of the countryside.
In this book the author, who has been an authority on trees for many years, describes all the trees and shrubs likely to be met with, and provides the means of recognising them at all seasons of the year. There are many detailed sketches of leaves, twigs, flowers and fruit, and photographs of the trees themselves; also a useful identifcation table and glossary of terms.
The author's hope in preparing this guide is that it will stimulate an interest in trees in some who have never previously observed them intelligently, and be of some help to those who are beginning to look at the beauties of the country with eyes that see.
